Alpamayo 2012: Fantastic Climbing, Summit Tomorrow?

Col Camp on Alpamayo 2012
Col Camp on Alpamayo 2012

Hopefully we go for the summit of Alpamayo tomorrow, weather dependent. But it looks good.

Today was spectacular climbing to the Col Camp at 18, 000′. We climbed in two rope teams of three navigating glacier crevasses and the final 60 degree pitch before descending to the Col proper.

It was mostly cloudy all day keeping the temperatures agreeable but blocking the views. Thanks to my Colorado 14er work the past few months, even my 45lb pack was OK. The views continue to amaze. I think I have some of the mountains/climbing shots ever.

I’m still having sat connection problems so will have to wait until I get home to upload them. I did try to upload one from our camp i just took. I had to shrink it so the quality will suffer.

Also, I apologize for the duplicate notification and posts. I thought the system I used had fixed this.

OK perhaps a voice update tomorrow after the summit.

Climb On!

  1. Looks like you are almost close enough to touch the face of God! Thrilled that the weather allowed a safe & timely summit! Blessings to you all from sea level in Texas, especially to my awesome & beloved son, McLean!

  2. It looks wonderful…too bad Cheri didn’t bring her skiis…we all miss her like crazy but are happy she is chasing dreams…
