Virtual Everest 2020: Base Camp Tour

The good weather couldn’t last forever and it came with a vengeance today keeping everyone trapped wherever they were – base or high camps. Dutch took a video tour of Everest Base Camp before the storm.

Virtual Everest 2020 – Support the Climbing Sherpas is a joint project of Alan Arnette and several global guide companies. Our objective is to entertain Everest fans during the Coronavirus spring closure and raise money to help the Climbing Sherpas who are not working this spring. While there will be accurate historical references, this series is a work of fiction. Names, characters, and incidents either are products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual events or locales or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental. Buddies sat quietly together in Bud’s tent. He was on day three of the Z-Pac protocol for his URI. “I’m not coughing as much and feel 100% better,” Bud said to his friend. “I’ll be ready go when the team is.” Buddy looked at him. “Let’s take this slowly, The Doc said five days rest and meds so not a day sooner.” The heavy snow overnight was a blessing for Bud, it kept the team at base camp another day, giving him a chance to recover.

Couple, Old Man, Snorer spent most of the day playing cards in the dinning tent while She read a new novel on her Kindle. It was a trashy love story about mountain Climbers, “After the Summit – Everest Tales and Romance” It helped pass the time.

“Heads up, everyone, the weather forecast calls for clearing later today, so we will head up to C2 tomorrow, take a rest day then C3 on the 7th.” Guide told the team. “This is game time, so get your heads in it.”

Dutch wandered around base camp the day before the snow arrived and put together this video. I hope you enjoy seeing what is home for a lot of people right now.

(Note: Obviously, it was me (Alan) and it was in 2016, It’s a tour from top to bottom – 17,500′ to 17,250′, about 1.1 miles in total length. Sorry about the wind noise, it drops down for most of the video but you may need to turn your volume up as Russell Brice speaks at the end.
