{"id":24772,"date":"2016-11-24T12:56:10","date_gmt":"2016-11-24T19:56:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/?p=24772"},"modified":"2016-11-27T20:14:04","modified_gmt":"2016-11-28T03:14:04","slug":"happy-thanksgiving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/2016\/11\/24\/happy-thanksgiving\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy Thanksgiving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends who are celebrating this American holiday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This year,   2016, is a bit special for some happy and sad reasons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Living in Colorado, late November sees bare trees and usually snow on the ground. But this year, the ground is as bare as the tree branches. It has been warm and dry. However, the mountains are finally getting snow and the ski resort are celebrating! It\u2019s almost time for me to don the crampons and hit some vertical ice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-24777\" src=\"http:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/10474733_10153496899038411_7169352256185878835_n-225x169.jpg\" alt=\"Jim Davidson and Alan\" width=\"225\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/10474733_10153496899038411_7169352256185878835_n-225x169.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/10474733_10153496899038411_7169352256185878835_n-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/10474733_10153496899038411_7169352256185878835_n-640x480.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/10474733_10153496899038411_7169352256185878835_n.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>I am thankful for all my friends &#8211; close and far away. Today is the first holiday for some who lost family members. They are thankful for all the wonderful memories of their shortened lives. Loss can bring focus to what is important\u00a0in life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">I am thankful for my \ud83d\ude42\u00a0mountains I am deeply, deeply grateful for the opportunities I have\u00a0had, the climbs I have not completed\u00a0and the summits that allowed me to visit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While at peace to perhaps not climb an 8000 meter mountain again, \u00a0I remain hopeful to climb a few more, perhaps with my climbing friends who continue to be an anchor in my life. But no matter, you can always find me on a Colorado 14er!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Staying with climbing, I&#8217;m grateful to have developed a realtionship with legend Jeff Lowe. To have\u00a0met Messner, House, Steck, Anker, Viesturs and others whom showed me what is possible and provide motivation to give it all I have, and to give back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">I am thankful for my family. Today the newest member, Abby celebrates her first holiday with an amazing scoot across the floor. She appears to be a natural climber! Cory, who has shown me what life is all about in the most simple way. The circles of love that nurture\u00a0this family is inspring.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">I am thankful for everyone committed to finding a cure for Alzheimer\u2019s. This week a study found\u00a0new dementia cases had dropped in the US by 25% due to healthier lifestyle, yet a promising drug to slow the disease in the mid stage failed dissapointing millions around\u00a0the world hoping for a way to stop this disease.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Close\u00a0to 50 million familes are living with Alzheimer&#8217;s. Today caregivers all over the world are helping a loved one remember Thanksgivings past. You are not alone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-24779\" src=\"http:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/11986919_10153319358003411_6571741070461042630_n-225x169.jpg\" alt=\"Kami at Puja\" width=\"225\" height=\"169\" \/>I am thankful for laughing, crying, walking and sleeping. I am thankful\u00a0for life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The world continues to be a scary place, but perhaps not as scary as centuries ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This Thanksgiving, I remain optimistic that the gentler side of all human kind will emerge. That we will evolve to  one another with love and respect. That we choose to express our differences with thoughtful words, resist violence, lashing out in anger and judging others thru narrow lenses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Peace to all.
