{"id":27105,"date":"2017-06-07T10:47:43","date_gmt":"2017-06-07T16:47:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/?p=27105"},"modified":"2017-06-10T14:30:34","modified_gmt":"2017-06-10T20:30:34","slug":"climbers-abuse-rules-causes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/2017\/06\/07\/climbers-abuse-rules-causes\/","title":{"rendered":"Climber Selfishness Causes China to Close Autumn Climbs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Without thinking of anyone else but himself, Polish climber\u00a0Janusz Adam Adamski, 49, made an illegal traverse from China\u00a0to Nepal\u00a0this Everest 2017 season.<\/p>\n<p>Now, not only will\u00a0he will be punished by\u00a0Nepal and\u00a0China, but his action have\u00a0costs others their opportunity to climb in Tibet\u00a0this autumn.<\/p>\n<h3>Follow No Rules<\/h3>\n<p>Adamski made an illegal traverse from China\u00a0to Nepal, knowing he needed a permit. \u00a0He said that he believes there is no border on mountains and thus ignored the rules apparently\u00a0feeling they didn&#8217;t\u00a0apply to him. Amazingly his total disregard for rules was flaunted in this quote to the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehimalayantimes.com\/nepal\/man-illegally-traversed-everest-ready-face-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Himalayan Times<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI am ready to face any legal challenge in Nepal to safeguard the greatest achievement of my life, I\u2019ll never regret what I did. As there is no provision of issuing traverse permit in both countries, I had to traverse illegally for fulfilment of my lifetime dream,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Adamski faces a $22,000 fine and 10 year ban from climbing in Nepal. It&#8217;s not clear what China will do.<\/p>\n<h3>A Bigger\u00a0Cost<\/h3>\n<p>The China Tibet Mountaineering Association sent out notices today to those teams hoping to climb\u00a0Cho Oyu this autumn. Simply put, due to\u00a0Adamski&#8217;s actions, they are closing all of Tibet to climbing this autumn. Previously they said they were limiting permits\u00a0to only 50 for Cho Oyu only.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/CTMA-Autumn-2017-Closure.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-27106\" src=\"http:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/CTMA-Autumn-2017-Closure-349x480.jpg\" alt=\"CTMA Autumn 2017 Closure\" width=\"600\" height=\"826\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/CTMA-Autumn-2017-Closure-349x480.jpg 349w, https:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/CTMA-Autumn-2017-Closure-163x225.jpg 163w, https:\/\/www.alanarnette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/CTMA-Autumn-2017-Closure.jpg 1275w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps this is a convenient excuse for China to do what\u00a0it really wanted to anyway &#8211; close all of Tibet to foreigners due to a &#8220;meeting&#8221; being held in the region, but to name Adamski directly is quite strong.
