I reached out to Garrett at Everest Base Camp to get his comments on the conditions and their plans:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I think we could potentially still make a summit attempt, but there looks to be a lot of snow on the Lhotse face and also higher up on the route. The difficult weather and route conditions this season have put us behind schedule. The monsoon is still in effect, and might continue into early &#8211; mid October, so that doesn\u2019t make it any easier. Then there\u2019s the issue of a major Serac high up on the west shoulder that looks like it\u2019s going to fall any day now into the icefall. We measured the size by drone and estimated the size at 1.123 million cubic feet of ice. Tomorrow we will decide if we climb higher and return to Camp 2 or if we end here our acclimatization and go down to Base Camp.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a class=\"_64-f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ChrisJensenBurke\/\">Chris Jensen Burke<\/a> who is climbing with <a class=\"_64-f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/exbasenepal\/\">Expedition Base<\/a> made this unsettling post about finding a body on the mountain:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We don\u2019t have outside comms or media so are unsure what is known of the 2 deceased climbers found located on the glacier. We have determined an approximate time stamp based on the gear they have on and from reviewing the Himalayan Database. The forecast does call for low winds all week so the teams are moving. His team, <a class=\"_64-f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/elitehimalayanadventures\/\">Elite Himalayan Adventures<\/a> led by Mingma David Sherpa, set this tentative schedule:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>24th: Camp 1<\/li>\n<li>25th: Camp 3<\/li>\n<li>26th: Camp 4<\/li>\n<li>27th: Summit attempt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adventureconsultants.com\/latest-news\/dispatches-manaslu-2019\/\">Adventure Consultants<\/a>, <a class=\"_64-f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/climbalaya\/\">Climbalaya<\/a>, <a class=\"_64-f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/furtenbachadventures\/\">Furtenbach<\/a>, <span id=\"fb-timeline-cover-name\" class=\"_2t_q\" data-testid=\"profile_name_in_profile_page\"><a class=\"_2nlw _2nlv\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/rolwalingmingma\">Mingma Sherpa<\/a><\/span> have all launched their summit bids.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/climbingthesevensummits.com\/progress-on-manaslu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Climbing the Seven Summits<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ArnoldCoster\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arnold Coster<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitclimb.com\/news\/recent\/manaslu-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Summit Climb<\/a> are looking to launch their bid later this week.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/sst8848\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seven Summits Treks<\/a>, who has the largest team on Manaslu of over 150 including support will have climbers all week on their bids.<\/p>\n<h1>Tibet<\/h1>\n<h2>Cho Oyu &#8211; Ropes To Summit<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mountainguides.com\/wordpress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IMG<\/a> posted they have launched their summit bid. <a href=\"https:\/\/alpenglowexpeditions.com\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adrian Ballinger,<\/a> tells me that their Cho team has clients at C1 on Monday, then at C2 on Tuesday, and planned summit on the 25th.<\/p>\n<h2>Shishapangma<\/h2>\n<p>The Chinese have officially closed Shish for the season.<\/p>\n<p>Climb On!<br \/>\nAlan<br \/>\nMemories are Everything<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Climbers are on the move across the Himalaya hoping to summit in a few days.
