After a few hours of waiting, case<\/a> we were just told to get dressed in our full -15F clothes and meet in the hotel lobby in 1 hour. Our packs were loaded yesterday on the big Ill so all we have are small day packs with another couple of layers, a small book and sunglasses.<\/p>\n
It is a four hour flight so assuming (a big if) we leave around 5PM\u00a0 local time we should arrive at Union Glacier around 9PM local time, <\/a> still full sunlight since the sun never sets this time of year. The camp is about 5 miles from the runway so we take a modified overland vehicle there. We will probably spend what’s left of the night at ALE’s Union Glacier camp before flying to Vinson Base Camp Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
As I look out my window at a ship on the Straits of Magellan, I must admit, I am like a kid in a candy store with excitement – can’t wipe the grin off my face and it may become frozen if the winds pick back up \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
But also, I remain humbled by the reason I am here.<\/p>\n
