While most teams were waiting in base camp for the recent snowfall to settle, a few pushed on, breaking trail and either pulling the fixed ropes out or putting in new ones to reach the true summit of Manaslu.<\/p>\n

There is no word on the route that was used, but Kristin Harila, Pasdawa Sherpa, Dawa Ongchu Sherpa, with 8k Expeditions<\/a>, were one of the first to summit. They will continue their quest to get all 14 8000ers in six months. Now they move to Cho Oyu from the Nepal side and hopefully Shishapangma if the Chinese will approve their permit application.<\/p>\n

Other summits were reported by Mingma Thinduk Sherpa, and Chinese climber Hu Tao with Pioneer Treks.<\/p>\n

Sanu Sherpa summited the true top after his first two summits were apparently only to the fore summit. He had received a hero’s welcome when he returned from Pakistan this summer for his claims that he had summited all 14 of the 8000ers twice. Apparently, he had missed Manaslu.<\/p>\n

Kristin’s IG page had this update:<\/p>\n

Kristin summited Manaslu (8163 m) \u2013 the eight-highest mountain in the world \u2013\u00a0today at 2.36 p.m. local time with @pasdawa_mountaineer<\/a> and @dawaongjusherpa<\/a> from @8kexpeditions<\/a> as the first team this season.<\/p>\n

“This was hard, but we wanted to summit Manaslu now to avoid the crowd of climbers waiting in the base camp. Heavy snowfall and high risk of avalanches made this ascend challenging, so I am glad we made it”, Kristin says in a message from the summit of Manaslu.<\/p>\n

Most of the other climbers returned to base camp due to adverse conditions.<\/p>\n

She needs only two more mountains to complete the #Bremont14Peaks<\/a> and possibly be the fastest to summit all 14 peaks over 8000 meters. She still awaits a permit from the Chinese government to climb Shishapangma (and Cho Oyu). The final deadline is 2 November.<\/p>\n

“I have already proved that women can break barriers. I hope I get a fair chance to set the record, it would mean a lot for women in mountaineering.”<\/p>\n
