As many as fifty people made the summit of Everest on Monday morning, May 13th<\/sup>. Nearby, Lhotse also saw summits. Teams arrived at the base camp on the Tibet side, while a French climber sadly lost his life on Makalu. Winds are coming, so the action will slow for a few days.<\/p>\n

Nepal<\/h3>\n

Several teams summited Everest on Monday morning\u00a0but they seem to be shy about reporting the details.<\/p>\n

Climbing the Seven Summits<\/a> had a good morning with eight clients led by two Western guides and supported by sixteen sherpas, making the client: support ratio 1:2.25<\/p>\n

        Tibet<\/h3>\n

        The few teams that stayed with China are now settling into base camp on that side. The ropes are to the summit so they might take their time to acclimatize before heading up.<\/p>\n

        Other 8000ers<\/h3>\n

        Johnny Saliba, 60, passed away on Sunday at around 8,120 meters while descending from Makalu’s<\/strong> summit. He was climbing with the Nepali company, \u00a0Snowy Horizon Treks. This is the second death on Makalu this spring and the second for he 8000er season.<\/p>\n

        Saliba was climbing with a small group led by Serge Bazin, a French mountain guide who had summited and guided Makalu before.<\/p>\n
