This Sunday, May 19th, morning, it’s estimated that over 100 people stood on top of the world.

These are some of the totals reported by the teams:

7 Summits Club: 13 clients with Sherpa support not named

14 Peaks Expeditions: 8 clients with 8 Sherpa – 1:1

8K Expeditions 17 clients with 21 Sherpa – 1:1.2

Angs Himalayan Adventures: 1 client with 3 Sherpa – 1:3

Climbalaya: 1 client with 21 Sherpas – 1:1

Kaitu Expeditions: 8 clients, 13 Sherpa – 1:1.6

Satori Adventures: 5 clients with 11 sherpas – 1:2.2

As has become the standard, multiple Sherpas support each foreigner, increasing the summit numbers and the crowds. Thankfully, today is the first of perhaps a week or more summit winds under the 30 mph top limit the best teams use as a safety guideline, so crowds shouldn’t be an issue. Last year, Sherpas surpassed foreigners by having the majority of Everest summits. But this is like saying a pilot has more airtime than a passenger, so I’m not sure it matters anymore.

On the Tibet side, teams are spread out from Basecamp to Advanced Base Camp, some targeting the summit on May 28th.

On Everest, there have been about 197 summits thus far, with 414 permits issued to foreigners.

Climb On!
Alan
Memories are Everything

Podcasts

You can listen to #everest2024 podcasts on Spotify, Apple Podcast, Breaker, YouTube, Pocket Casts, RadioPublic, Anchor, and more. Everyday Everest follows a fictional team of nine climbers and their personal Sherpas from leaving home to trekking to base camp, acclimatizing, and finally, on their summit push. The story’s protagonist, Harper, sets the tone for the story when she tells her husband, Marc, “Honey, I’m going to climb Everest.”

You can listen to Everyday Everest on Spotify, Apple Podcast, Breaker, YouTube, Pocket Casts, RadioPublic, Anchor, and more.
