As has become the standard, multiple Sherpas support each foreigner, increasing the summit numbers and the crowds. Thankfully, today is the first of perhaps a week or more summit winds under the 30 mph top limit the best teams use as a safety guideline, so crowds shouldn’t be an issue. Last year, Sherpas surpassed foreigners by having the majority of Everest summits. But this is like saying a pilot has more airtime than a passenger, so I’m not sure it matters anymore.<\/p>\n
On the Tibet side, teams are spread out from Basecamp to Advanced Base Camp, some targeting the summit on May 28th.<\/p>\n
On Everest, there have been about 197 summits thus far, with 414 permits issued to foreigners.<\/p>\n
