The Everest Chronicle reported, “It was a minor avalanche caused by a small ice block breaking off a few meters below the ladder section, just before reaching Camp I,” said Nivesh Karki, executive director of Pioneer Adventure.

Around 5:45 am, Tuesday morning, May 5, 2026, Indian climber Nimish Kumar Singh, 40, and Pemba Tenduk Sherpa, 44, were injured when ice fell onto the Khumbu Icefall. Both climbers were evacuated to Kathmandu by helicopter with minor injuries.

Makalu Death

Czech climber, David Roubinek, died from HAPE, high-altitude pulmonary edema, while descending from Camp III on Makalu II. According to a report in the Himalayan Times, the Roubinek was part of a seven-member team climbing in alpine style without guide support, locally managed by I AM Treks and Expedition.

No O’s Woes?

I’m hearing from several of the no-supplemental-oxygen climbers that they’re concerned about the delays and their ability to be fully acclimatized before their summit push.
