However,   look<\/a>  as I finalize my preparations to climb Everest in less than two weeks,   I created this brief video that explains my motivation and plans.<\/p>\n<p>I will do everything I can to reach the summit of Everest, ambulance<\/a>  but of greater importance is to raise awareness of the growing epidemic of Alzheimer&#8217;s and the urgent need for increased funding for research.<\/p>\n<p>The Alzheimer&#8217;s Association just released a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alz.org\/alzheimers_disease_facts_and_figures.asp\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> showing the dramatic increase in Alzheimer&#8217;s and thus the urgency for a cure:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Every 69 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer&#8217;s<\/li>\n<li>More than 60 percent of family caregivers report high levels of stress because of the prolonged duration of caregiving and 33 percent report symptoms of depression.<\/li>\n<li>Alzheimer&#8217;s disease is the most common type of dementia.<\/li>\n<li>One in eight older Americans has Alzheimer&#8217;s disease.<\/li>\n<li>Alzheimer&#8217;s disease is the fifth leading cause of death for those 65 and older.<\/li>\n<li>Nearly 15 million Americans provide unpaid Alzheimer&#8217;s care for a person with Alzheimer&#8217;s disease or another dementia.<\/li>\n<li>The projected cost of Alzheimer&#8217;s disease care by 2050 &#8212; $1.1 Trillion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are not just cold facts, they represent real people -like my mom &#8230;<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"640\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BQJtCBf26Rg\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>You can donate to research at The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.curealzfund.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cure Alzheimer&#8217;s Fund<\/a> where 100% of your donation goes to fund promising research.
