I am pleased to welcome the Alzheimer’s Association to the 7 Summits Climb for Alzheimer’s: Memories are Everything. Many of you know them as the largest Alzheimer’s non-profit with leading programs for research, <\/a> caregivers, mind<\/a> education and government advocacy. I have worked with them for several years now raising money for all these causes.<\/p>\n

As part of the 7 Summits Climb program, they will promote my climbs to their membership thus raising more awareness and urgency for Alzheimer’s causes. I am extremely grateful for their support.<\/p>\n

To reiterate what my climbs are all about; I am using my climbs of the highest mountain on each continent, the 7 Summits, over a one year period to raise awareness that Alzheimer’s is a disease just like cancer or diabetes. There is no cure and more research is urgently needed to find effective ments and eventually a cure. Alzheimer’s devastates families and finances. I know as my family struggled with my mom’s Alzheimer’s, it was painful for everyone along with a sense of helplessness as we watched her lose her short term memory, long term memory, ability to care for herself, her identity and eventually her life.<\/p>\n

Through the many programs offered by the Alzheimer’s Association and their vision of a World without Alzheimer’s; our efforts match perfectly and compliment those of the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund and the National Family Caregivers Association.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, my dispatches from the climbs hopefully bring readers and followers into the world of mountain climbing while providing analogies to the challenges faced by individuals with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. Your comments on my posts are highly valued and keep me going. Please remember that this is an advocacy site and we are not discussing ments, therapies or drugs. I am currently sending this dispatch from Mt. Everest Base Camp. I have been here for 6 weeks and will be climbing to the summit hopefully next week, weather permitting. Then I will climb the tallest mountain in North America, Denali, followed by Elbrus in Russia, Kilimanjaro in Africa, Carstensz Pyramid in New Guinea completing the 7 Summits with Kosciusko in Australia before December 9th thus climbing all the mountains in one year. I already summited Vinson in Antarctica and Aconcagua in South America before my Everest climb.<\/p>\n

As I climb these mountains, knowing that you are providing financial support for Alzheimer’s causes gives me strength and determination in addition to honoring my mom, two aunts and over 5 million people with Alzheimer’s just in the U.S. and millions more around the world and their family caregivers. 100% of your donation goes to Alzheimer’s non-profits and zero to me.<\/p>\n
