Everest/Lhotse 2016: A Day around Namche

We went to the Everest View Hotel and were rewarded with a nice view of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam between the clouds, then to Khumjung for a visit to the Sir Edmund Hillary school where the boys were playing football in the fog. Plus some yaks decided to break free! 🙂

News:

Weather has been unusually cloudy and a bit rainy from Lukla to Namche
Many teams have had problems flying in have used more expensive helicopters extensively
Many teams are already in the Khumbu making the trek to Everest Base Camp
North side teams are starting to arrive and cross the Nepal/China border
206 Everest permits have been issued to 24 different teams as of March 30.

Climb On!

  1. Alan, curious about the travel from KTH to Lukla. With the possible decreased climbers, etc, was there a noticable ease in geting threre compared to past years. It has been too long since I have stepped onto that soil. I will be following your progress. As always good luck and stay safe.

    1. the weather has been very bad this year from Lukla to Namche so many, many fixed wing flights were canceled forcing teams to take helicopters and even then many we forced to land a lower villages making the hike in longer.

  2. I have very happy memories of these places – thanks for the photos Alan! Good luck with Lhotse.
