The weather is bad on Everest. Heavy snow at EBC with high winds at Cmap 2. The rope fixing team is hunkering down until it passes. The good news is that this appears to be a short-term event. Now for the bad news.
Meteorologists, Chris Tomer of Tomer Weather Solutions told me today, Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Nepal:
Really tough road ahead. The serac delay has put them between a rock and hard place. Storm system slides across Everest 5/9-5/10 with up to a foot of snow accumulation. Brief summit window thereafter. Then the jet stream sits on the summit 5/14-5/18. If they can’t get the summit open by 5/13 then you can see what happens.
No O’s Woes?
I’m hearing from several of the no-supplemental-oxygen climbers that they’re concerned about the delays and their ability to be fully acclimatized before their summit push. Traditionally, they will tag or even sleep at the South Col before making their push. However, it’s unclear how high any of them have reached as of this post date.
Climb On!
