A tragic incident occurred involving one of Imagine Nepal’s clients, Guan Jing, who resides in the San Jose area. She was inadvertently struck by a rock between Camp 1 and Advanced Base Camp and sadly lost her life. The accident occurred on Tuesday night, August 12, 2025 (Pakistan time).
She had successfully summited with Mingma G’s Imagine Nepal team on August 11. A family friend informed me of her passing, and the Kathmandu-based Tourism Times published confirmation on August 13, 2025, mentioning that efforts were ongoing to recover her remains.
Jing Guan was known for summiting Everest earlier and was an avid yoga practitioner.

This is the second fatality on K2 this season, both resulting from rockfalls below C1. Last month, a Pakistani climber unfortunately lost his life following an avalanche near Camp 1 on K2, the country’s highest peak. According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP), four climbers were impacted by the avalanche; two returned safely to base camp, and one sustained minor injuries. Sadly, Iftikhar Hussain Sadpara, a climber from Skardu, was killed. His body was recovered and transported back to base camp shortly after the incident.

A sad tragedy.
Are there any reliable news if all the other climbers have managed to descend safely from K2 or are there still climbers left on K2?
I believe, 99%, all are down now. At least they should be, but the guides have not produced news consistently this year.
just saw this on Explorers Web …

Do not know her but she is my son’s landlord in SF. Glad she is safe.
So so sad.. tough mountain .. K2
Horrible news. This is what the Madison team was afraid of, especially on the descent.
Tragic.
Do you think helmets would have helped with either death? These sound like major events.
Depends on the size of the rock. I had a friend hit in 2008 in the same area. He was wearing a helmet and still got a concussion. I’m 99.99% sure she was wearing one.
