Alan on K2 Summit Push!

Alan and his teammates are pushing hard for the summit of K2 right now!

They left Camp 4 about 5 hours ago (about 10:40 pm on Saturday 7-26 Pakistan local time) and are making good progress. The weather has been very good these last few days, s and the route might be in good shape as about 18-20 climbers summitted K2 yesterday, after a very long day of climbing. Congratulations to all those who climbed yesterday, summit or not. Thanks to all the climbers, Pakistani high altitude climbers and Sherpas who put in the fixed lines.

Alan can’t post to his Facebook page or Twitter accounts right now while on the summit push. The latest information can be seen on his GPS progress map https://www.alanarnette.com/blog/k2-2014/

As Alan’s temporary admin, I (Jim Davidson) am trying to integrate various sources of information from other teams on K2 to post occasional summaries on my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ClimberJimDavidson

Please keep Alan and all the climbers on K2 right now in your thoughts for successful climbing and a safe descent.

  1. A belated congratulations as I stayed up most of the night until you reported you had made it back to Camp 4 safely and then slept in. I hope to hear soon that you slept well at Camp 4 and are departing for lower altitudes soon. A true inspiration.

  2. Congratulations! Happy Birthday! so K2 or Everest more difficult? Wishing you a safe decent!

  3. What a way to celebrate your birthday!! Some guys just know how to party!!

Alan, I’m looking forward to seeing you when you get home – and to get the beta.

    Safe travels!!

  4. I have so much respect and admiration for your climb and your cause. I love the mountains and dream of being back amongst those awesome peaks. I have been following your site for years but have only just got round to donating. I urge others to do the same. Following your blog is more exciting than an book or a movie, and your cause far more important than most of those things I spend my money on. It might have taken me too long, but it is a pleasure to offer a contribution.
Congratulations and come down slowly and safely.

  5. We’re watching, waiting and praying… sending you strength, energy and love Alan!!
